I’ve been silent for a while on the blog because I’ve been making some big changes! I accepted a position at a new organization, and a few months ago I stepped into the role of Director of Gender Mainstreaming and Women’s Empowerment at ACDI/VOCA!
I am excited to be part of this wonderful organization, and I am thrilled to be leading a fantastic team of gender advisors who help support gender equality and women’s empowerment as a critical part of ACDI/VOCA’s vision to empower people—both women and men—to succeed in the global economy. You can find out more about ACDI/VOCA’s gender approach here.
So what will I be doing for ACDI/VOCA? Well, I am managing the gender and social behavior change (SBC) team, overseeing technical support to programs worldwide. I am overseeing organizational gender equity initiatives, including the implementation of ACDI/VOCA’s policy for promoting gender equity, trainings, workshops, gender analyses, and assessments. I am working with the gender team to coordinate across technical units, working closely with nutrition, climate change, market systems, monitoring and evaluation, and new business teams.
I’m excited to be working on some great projects, including the Women’s Economic Empowerment component of the USAID-funded Leveraging Economic Opportunities (LEO) project. The LEO project has been developing guidance on inclusive market systems, increasing women’s access to finance and credit, and guidance on implementing the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) at the project level.
Another exciting initiative at ACDI/VOCA is our Partnership for Gender Equity with the Coffee Quality Institute, a multi-stage project that seeks to influence coffee industry best practice to support gender equity within supply chains and lead to real, measurable results.
Please keep an eye on the ACDI/VOCA website for announcements about our work! We have a lot of exciting projects ahead, and I’m sure I’ll be posting information about a visit to the field soon. I’m looking forward to meeting our field staff and learning more about the great work that is happening on the ground around the world!
